Hello and welcome to Leaf and Light! My name is Keith Aderholdt, and this is my business. My original plan for Leaf and Light was to focus my passions for wood, woodworking, art, craft, and design work while exalting the use of local materials. So far, so good. From a crafts perspective, I have tremendous respect for practices that have stood the test of time. I use European and Japanese tools and techniques, as well as modern equipment where it represents an advantage.

I have worked extensively in the Bay Area for many years, with shops based in San Francisco and currently in Oakland. My focus is always on using the most beautiful and suitable wood for each project, and as a woodworker interested in cultivating superior wood sources, I am fortunate. I now have access to a far wider selection and better quality sustainable wood than at any point prior.

Leaf and Light strives to use a combination of repurposed lumber, sustainably harvested lumber, and local lumber from arborists. My window restoration and other exterior work is often redwood for its regional historical accuracy, its availability and incredible exterior durability.

While Leaf and Light continues to offer a full suite of sustainable woodworking and design-build services, the space to use my lathe has also allowed me to continue a series of lamps, bowls, and vessels. For turning and other singular projects, I have been fortunate to work with a range of locally-sourced woods including black walnut, black acacia, black locust, camphor, plum, Norfolk Island pine (not a true pine), juniper, redwood, true cedars, Monterey cypress, Chinese elm, spalted ash, reclaimed old growth Douglas fir and more.

In the future, you may hear about specific turning projects or my local milling project. Also, my love of local trees doesn’t stop with wood. I also love planting trees and baking with fruit, and I make a mean persimmon bread…

I look forward to hearing from you!
